McIlroy Moves To Number 1 – Time To Play
England’s Luke Donald has surrendered the World Number 1 position to Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy after a less than perfect showing at the PGA Heritage. Donald shot a 71 on the final round to finish 2-over par which pushed him 16 shots from the lead and 37th place.
It has been a challenge at the top over the past month with McIlroy claiming the top spot for the first time in his career after winning the US PGA Honda Classic. Donald took the mantle back only 2 weeks later after winning the US PGA transitions Championship. Where we go next will be exciting viewing.
It is fantastic to see such a challenge at the top from one of the young stars in the game. With Bubba Watson winning the Masters for the first time and Tiger Woods winning his first tournament in what feels like forever, golf is hitting the front pages. The odds are against Watson having a Grand Slam year as the tournament fields are so strong. With Couples hitting it longer than he ever has before you almost can’t put a line through anyone. It will come down to who can play a consistent 4 rounds. All this excitement can only make you want to go out and play.
As we hit the warmer months in the US and the US Open fast approaching it is time to spend more time on your game. As the days become longer the joints begin to loosen up and you just have to get out there and play. It is so easy now to book tee times online that there are no excuses. Spending time with friends or playing partners is the perfect way to spend your days, and crunching that drive (even once!) makes it all worth while.
Hopefully you have been working on your swing so that when you get out there you play some great golf. If you haven’t then you still need to get out and be a part of it. It is going to be an amazing year on the PGA tour as it becomes more and more competitive. No longer is there 1 person winning all the tournaments which for golf fans is just so exciting. Don’t just sit back and watch the pros go at it, get out there and be a part of it!
